Post Uptown Place Charlotte, NC
The resurgence of Uptown Charlotte as a place to live created significant opportunities for mixed-use housing projects. The design of this project is a concrete parking deck wrapped with wood and metal frame apartment units. The block was conceptually divided into two parts. The first was a five-story industrial loft building with ground level retail. The units have an open plan to provide flexbility in their small square footage [ 510sf was the smallest ]. The upper corner of the building is eroded to create a communal roof terrace with skyline views. The second part of the block is a 4-story building with townhouse units at the base and flats above. The townhouse stoops help to encourage pedestrian traffic and activate the streetscape. The buildings have differing aesthetics which reflect the site context as well as serving to break up the massing of the block.
