Grier Heights Redevelopment Plan Charlotte, NC

In 2009, Axiom Architecture teamed with The Grier Heights Community, Self-Help Charlotte, and Crossroads Corporation – all non-profit organizations structured to provide better affordable housing in our community. Axiom worked closely with all three groups to help enhance specific site plan phases in Grier Heights as an evolution of a larger master plan developed in 2008.

Early design solutions considered providing a mix of brownstone-style row townhomes and modest scale single-family lots lining three primary streets at one of Grier Heights’ prominent corners. A few subsequent schemes have been developed and discussed more intently in 2010-2011. The latest plans suggest maintaining most existing lots (which have been cleared of abandoned, dilapidated homes), and providing new construction, with fresh designs, and at affordable prices.

The plan will also include a clustering of duplexes addressing Dunn Avenue, which serves as an “entry” street off Monroe Road. The duplexes and some newly subdivided single-family lots will share a common green space. New sidewalks and planting strips will be introduced throughout much of this new plan as well.
