Silo Lofts

Charlotte, NC

Located on the edge of Charlotte’s Fourth Ward, this site was a forgotten sliver of land whose desirability was compromised by adjacent industry, an active railroad, a freeway and a convenience store. Only four blocks from Tryon Street, the city’s main thoroughfare, the site did, however, provide dramatic skyline views. The design solution was to construct a linear, four-story building close to the street with surface parking in the rear. Using the industrial context as an advantage, the building exterior incorporates corrugated metal cladding and other colorful components. The small unit square footage [ 525sf] was offset by 10-foot ceilings, and luminous window walls facing the skyline.
